Most people who know me understand that I went to prison.
(If you dont know this yet, the story can be found HERE)
As far as I can tell, there are only two reasons one goes to prison for Christ.
First, you are sent to prison because the government,
or another authority figures sent you there.
They want to keep you from spreading the Word,
that Christ died for us to know His loving sacrifice.
And YES, this still happens today.
Stories leak out from China about such instances,
including terrible cases where beatings and other abuses occur.
We dont see this type of behavior here in America,
and some people doubt that it still happens,
but you can read about this current situation in the world
at the links below:
“But,” you say, “this isnt something I can change!”
Well here is the second reason
someone may go to prison for their belief in Christ...
to minister to those incarcerated in prison.
Why should you do it?
Because Christ said it was important.
“I was naked and you clothed me,
I was sick and you visited me,
I was in prison and you came to me.”
Did Christ say this as an instruction?
I believe so.
Yet I believe we too often reject this part of Christ
because it takes too much of our time,
it involves too much work,
it makes us emotionally uncomfortable,
and it risks our physical safety.
Did Christ ever say you should expect to be safe? Or comfortable??
Are you afraid to disobey?
Or is it too much for Christ to ask of you?
“By this everyone will know you are my disciples,
if you love one another.” John 13:35
Choose His love.
“He is no fool who learns to give that which he cannot keep,
to gain that which he cannot earn.”
